![]() Now that I'm delving into this, what I see appears to be similar to the LR Classic catalog in structure. My C:\Users\charl\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC directory is only 20.9 GB with slightly over 202,000 files in 7,800 folders. My earlier comment may be "barking up the wrong tree". On further thought, I have 80,000+ images taking up 1.46 TB. The previews for my master catalog are over 27GB…might be time for me to toss them again… And note that the Auto standard preview size can be much higher on 4K+/Retina/HiDPI displays than for lower resolution displays, so if you have a higher resolution display, consider using a lower Standard Preview Setting size than Auto.īy the way that screen shot is for my test catalog, so the previews aren’t taking up much space. But that doesn't limit how much they can grow, only how quickly. But they will grow again as you browse images, since you need previews to be able to browse in the Library module.Īnother option is to go into Catalog Settings and reduce the size or quality of the previews, and maybe set 1:1 previews to be automatically discarded more frequently. The only non-technical way to keep the previews file on another volume is to store the catalog itself on another volume, because Lightroom Classic always puts the previews in the same folder as their catalog.įor a small internal drive, one strategy is to periodically delete the previews, because they’ll be re-created as needed and you lose nothing (except maybe the speed advantage of being able to use previews that have already been generated).
